What Do We Know So Far About The Upcoming Sixth Book In The A Court Of Thorns And Roses Series?

When Sarah J. Maas recently shared videos from a Taylor Swift concert, the ACOTAR fandom had a collective reaction: Girl, get back to your writing desk!

It’s been nearly four years since the release of A Court of Silver Flames in February 2021, and the wait for the next installment is starting to feel endless. If you’re anything like me, the anticipation is real.

So, while we wait (and wait…), here’s everything I’ve managed to uncover about the still-untitled sixth book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series—straight from one very determined fan.

We’ve been told to expect it in 2025 — though some fans speculate it might not arrive until 2026.

In 2023, Bloomsbury announced that fans could expect the next ACOTAR book in 2025. But here we are, nearly halfway through the year, and there’s still no official update. Some rumors have even suggested the release might be pushed to early 2026. At this point, it’s starting to feel like we might see the ACOTAR TV series—despite its on-again, off-again status—before we get the book.

That said, we do know Sarah J. Maas is actively working on it. Back in April 2024, she shared an Instagram post about heading north “to write for a while,” and included ACOTAR-related hashtags in the caption.

There was quite a bit of buzz that we might finally get some news in March 2025 about the book’s official release date. That timing lined up with Bloomsbury’s quarterly trade and business update on March 20 — a date when the publisher often announces major releases. But, unfortunately, the update came and went without any meaningful news about the next ACOTAR book.

What we do know is that it’s going to be a long one.

In late 2024, Maas spoke with Spotify and, while she didn’t reveal any plot details, she did mention that the book is going to be a lengthy one— which helps explain why it’s taking so much time to come together.

The story will likely be told from Elain’s perspective.

In the same Spotify interview, Maas mentioned it was still “too early” to reveal who the next book would focus on. She said she hoped to share more details soon, but it’s been over six months without an update.

With no official information, fans have been making educated guesses. The first three books centered on Feyre, while book four—a novella—hinted at a shift in perspective. Book five then focused on Nesta, Feyre’s sister, and her romance with Cassian. Naturally, the prevailing theory is that book six will follow Elain, Feyre’s other sister. Although a recent Time Magazine article is often cited as confirmation, it really just echoes this fan theory rather than confirming it outright.

During some deep dives on Reddit, I came across a theory that part of the book might be told from Mor’s point of view. A Court of Silver Flames included cryptic references to the day Eris found Mor in the woods, which could be setting the stage for her full story. Personally, I think we might also see a romance between Mor and Emerie, supporting the idea that parts of the upcoming book could be narrated through Mor’s eyes.

We can expect to see a lot more of Azriel.

Most fans are familiar with the two bonus chapters that accompanied A Court of Silver Flames, one of which features Azriel. If you haven’t read them yet, you can find links to these chapters on the subreddit. In one, Azriel shares a charged moment with Elain at the townhouse, while in the other, he has a tender encounter with Gwyn at the House of Wind. If we take these bonus chapters as hints toward what’s coming, it’s safe to say we can expect to see a lot more of Azriel in the sixth ACOTAR book.

Maas has definitely dropped hints that Azriel might develop a romance with the third Archeron sister, Elain. This has sparked mixed reactions within the fandom—some fans are all for it, while others, myself included, are rooting for Lucien to win her heart.

And let’s be honest, the idea of each Archeron sister pairing off perfectly with one of the Illyrian trio feels a bit too tidy. I personally think Azriel is more likely to end up with Gwyn. But at the end of the day, it’s all just speculation and personal opinion. We’ll have to wait and see how the story unfolds.

Maas has hinted at the possibility of a seventh ACOTAR book—or at least, that’s what fans believe.

It was widely believed that the sixth book would be the final installment in the series, but Maas recently hinted in an interview with Today that there might be more to come.

She revealed that she already knows what her next four books will be. Since we know one of them is ACOTAR 6, the question is: what about the other three? With only two active series—ACOTAR and Crescent City—this suggests there’s more ACOTAR on the horizon. It’s unlikely all three are Crescent City novels, so unless Maas has another series in the works, it seems the ACOTAR universe isn’t finished yet.
